Job Description


Sales tax manager will be responsible for (1) preparation of responses to tax audit requests related to non-income tax returns, (2) sales/use tax compliance projects, (3) sales tax system upgrade, and (4) preparation/filing of property tax return, annual reports, and various licenses.  This position will also handle 1099 preparation with outside processor and respond to follow-up requests from form recipients and the IRS.  Further, this position will review all vendor invoices submitted through AP on a daily basis. 

Sales/use tax audits & compliances:
  • Handle sales tax audits and provide a summary of each audit result. 
  • Process payments on time.
  • Maintain monthly reconciliation schedule for sales tax collection and payment.
  • Keep up with any changes in any sales tax reporting requirements
  • Monthly review of system-based sales tax rate updates.
  • Prepare lemon law buyback sales tax refund requests.
Form 1099:
  • Coordinate forms 1099 preparation with an outside processor.
  • Respond to requests from 1099 recipients.
  • Respond to IRS’ notices.  
Sales/use tax system upgrade:
  • Review all revenue streams at KMA and coordinate with outside tax advisor to complete sales tax matrix project.
  • Participate in the sales tax automation project.
Compliance on other tax:
  • Prepare and file property tax return, annual reports, business licenses and registrations, distributor and representative licenses.
  • Maintain dealers resale certificates file.
  • Process Purchase Requests for PO's on consultants and tax software subscriptions.
Vendor invoices:
  • Review all vendor invoices submitted through AP on a daily basis. 
  • Detail review of vendor files for sales/use tax compliance of vendors billing on cost+ bases, such as marketing and advertising vendors or contractors. Ensure that such vendors are not overcharging taxes.


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field of study or equivalent work experience required.

Overall Related Experience:

  • Understanding of general accounting and state/local tax laws.
  • Automotive industry experience preferred.
Directly Related Automotive Experience:
  • Minimum 7+ years’ work experience in sales/use tax return preparation and remittance required.
  • Minimum 7+ years’ work experience in real/personal property tax return preparation and remittance required.


  • Intermediate level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word required for creating workpapers, schedules, and reports from original source documents.
  • Experience with SAP highly desired.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to read tax statutes for various tax jurisdictions.
