Product Quality Engineering Intern

The Product Quality Engineering Intern will support the process to address Quality related customer concerns with KIA products in the US market.  In this role, he/she will have dual functions of analysis of quality data from multiple sources as well as conduct actual evaluation and testing of products. Intern will be exposed to several areas of the Product Quality department and related departments within Kia Motors America. The ultimate goal is to help improve Product Quality thereby strengthening KIA’s brand leadership in the market.
  • Active enrollment in a graduate level engineering or related program
  • Internship is located at KMA Headquarters in Irvine, CA
  • Assist in collecting and analyzing data from field staff, warranty data, CA files etc. Investigate product quality/service problems in Kia vehicles, and compose/ write comprehensive Technical Reports/Quality Information Reports (QIRs).  
  • Assist in development of Technical Service Bulletins, Newsletter and Pit Stop articles to communicate repair information and product changes to dealers. Advise Tech Line about repair procedures. 
  • Assist in verifying effectiveness of product changes made by Kia Motors Corporation, and assist with field fix development. Recommend corrective actions and/or counter measures.
  • Create status reports and presentations for KMC/KMA management.
  • Provide new insights and viewpoints to PQ staff.
  • The intern will support product quality and KMC quality group as a general introduction into improving product quality. A project will be assigned to the intern based upon his/her particular skill set.
  • An engineer will serve as a mentor to guide the intern throughout the internship period. However, the intern will be expected to be a self-starter, to work semi-independently, and to make decisions with good judgment.
  • At the conclusion of the internship, he/she will develop a PowerPoint presentation recapping their experience and he/she will present the report to our management team.

  • Currently enrolled in a mechanical, electrical, or related engineering graduate degree program.
Overall Related Experience:
  • Strong interest in automobiles.
  • Mechanical or electrical design, fabrication, and testing is a plus.
  • Prior automotive internships or related automotive mechanical/electrical work is a plus, but is not required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (intermediate level).
  • Ability to use common engineering measurement tools (e.g. micrometers, dial indicators, digital multimeters and oscilloscopes).
  • Ability to use common service garage equipment (e.g. vehicle lifts, hand tools).
  • A valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Compensation is $36/hr
  • Internship is non-exempt 
  • Internship dates are flexible (depending on school schedule)
