Job Description

This position is located in the Metro Boston, MA area.  Under the supervision of the Training Center Manager - East, the Service Technical Training Instructor improves dealership technician vehicle repair skills and work done right job performance through the effective delivery of performance-based service technical training courses.  These training courses are delivered in the training centers.


  • Prepare for and facilitate the effective delivery of service technical training courses to Kia dealership technicians to improve vehicle repair skills and work done right the first time job performance.  Monitor all classes to ensure safe work practices and procedures are followed at all times.  Administer the associated class participant enrollment processes and course completion records.
  • Prepare the training facility, vehicles, and tools/equipment as required prior to course delivery and return the environment to its appropriate state once the training is completed.  Administer the course support logistics of conducting training in the mobile/field environment.
  • Maintain the inventory, control, usage and maintenance of all training center resources and assets such as training vehicles, special service and hand tools, and other vehicle service and repair equipment.  Also ensure the facility is equipped with the appropriate safety and first aid supplies.
  • Participate in the development of service technical training curriculum as a subject matter expert.  Review draft materials, assist in validation of technical content accuracy and participate in training course pilot sessions.
  • Practice the continuous improvement of automotive technical and facilitation skills to ensure the delivery quality and effectiveness of all training courses meets or exceeds Kia University standards.



  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • Technical degree preferred.

Overall Related Experience:

  • Must have a strong working knowledge and experience with the delivery of performance-based training curriculum.
  • Working knowledge of dealership service operations with actual work experience preferred.

Directly Related Experience:

  • 5+ years teaching experience at the high school, college, adult education or manufacturer/distributor level in a technical (automotive preferred) environment.
  • Preferred 3 or more years of experience in the automotive industry


  • ASE Master Automobile Technician and L1 Automobile Advanced Engine Performance Specialist certification
  • Must have valid Driver’s License and maintain a responsible record that meets the criteria established by KMA.
  • May need to work additional hours outside of normal business hours as required by the job, including weekends or holidays
  • Travel is required domestically and/or internationally


  • Strong communication and training facilitation skills utilizing effective adult learning techniques and performance-based methodologies.
  • The Service Technical Training Instructor must be able to analyze vehicle systems, components, and diagnostic strategies with moderate levels of complexity and deliver training courses with moderate levels of supervision. The Service Technical Training Instructor is able to independently analyze highly complex vehicle systems and diagnostics and deliver complex training courses utilizing highly effective adult learning principals and performance-based training strategies that serve as a model for others to follow.
  • Must have strong knowledge of PC word processing/database programs.
