Job Description

SUMMARY
 
This position is located in Lancaster, TX and will be responsible for our Technical Training Centers and Instructors in Lancaster, TX, Lombard, IL, Kent, WA and Irvine, CA.

Under the direction of the Sr. Service Technical Training Manager, the Training Center Manager (West) is responsible for daily operation and ongoing evaluation of the assigned training center(s) and instructional staff including the scheduling and delivery of service technical training courses and related product support programs. Overall manager responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the tactical planning and scheduling of resources in support of business priorities and objectives while maintaining effective budget and expenses, and assisting in asset control. Frequent and effective collaboration with the appropriate corporate and regional management team is required to achieve the desired metrics and outcomes.

Additional responsibilities include leading training instructor subject matter expert team in the review, feedback, and pilot delivery of revised and/or new training curriculum to assure the deliverables meet the needs of the target audience. Criteria used to evaluate curriculum effectiveness includes, but is not limited to, the reduction of over-standard warranty payments, duplicate repairs, excessive tech line calls, customer satisfaction surveys, vehicle repurchases, and other relevant data. Training solutions for review include print, video, computer simulations, and distance learning modules.

The Training Center Manager balances the above responsibilities while also delivering the full complement of technical training courses to dealership technicians to ensure subject matter expertise as a role model for the instructor team while providing additional training delivery capacity and back-up support should emergency class coverage become necessary.

Occasional travel may be required domestically and/or internationally.
 
May need to work additional hours outside of normal business hours as required by the job, including weekends or holidays.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY
  • Deliver the full complement of technical training courses to dealership technicians to ensure subject matter expertise as a role model for the instructor team while providing additional training delivery capacity and back-up support should emergency class coverage become necessary.
  • Manage the assigned training instructor team in the delivery of performance-based training solutions to ensure the curriculum is delivered to department standards in terms of technical accuracy, instructional quality, and maximum technician skill transfer to the job.
  • Collaborate with appropriate corporate and regional management teams to develop effective training schedules and instructor resource allocation to support business priorities and objectives to achieve the desired metrics and outcomes.
  • Assist national service technical training management in the management of the assigned service technical training center assets, including training support material inventory, tools, equipment, vehicles, and related resources.
  • Lead the assigned training instructors in the subject matter expert review, feedback, and pilot delivery of revised and/or new training curriculum to assure the deliverables meet the needs of the target audience

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education:
  • Four-year technical degree or comparative experience with emphasis on automotive technology vocational training and/or education.

Overall Related Experience:

  • Advanced knowledge and experience delivering automotive vehicle hands-on, performance-based training.
  • Working knowledge of automobile dealership service operations and/or direct experience preferred.
  • Current ASE Certified Master Automobile Technician certification preferred.

Directly Related Experience:

  • Supervisory and/or management experience preferred, preferably in an automotive manufacturer/distributor and/or dealership environment.
  • Previous teaching experience (automotive preferred) at the College, Adult Education or Manufacturer/Distributor level in a technical environment is preferred.

SKILLS

  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with all levels in the organization, from dealership technicians to KMA regional management and corporate management.
  • Use critical analysis and creative problem-solving skills to develop training schedules and manage instructor resources to meet dealer training deficiencies and maximize training center capacity.
  • Advanced classroom presentation and shop facilitation skills.
  • Coach, mentor, and provide feedback to instructor team to continuously improve presentation and facilitation skills; mentor Kia Skill World Cup technicians to help prepare them for the global competition.
  • Advanced level of Kia product and technical knowledge.
  • With Master trainer skills, model instructor competencies as outlined on the Facilitator Skill Assessment Worksheet to develop instructor team skills.
  • Understanding of adult learning principles and performance-based training strategies.
  • Collaboration with instructional design staff on course revisions.
  • Foster teamwork between instructors and instructional designers.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, including managing instructor productivity to ensure a minimum of 135 instructional days, and managing the day-to-day operations of assigned training centers including facility standardization, cleanliness, safety, upgrading, equipment maintenance, and inventory/control of capital assets.
